A Haines man was arrested on Tuesday at the airport. The Haines Borough Police Department found a large amount of drugs on his person.

46 year old Jason Adams was stopped at the Haines airport on Tuesday. Officer Max Jussi was one of the arresting officers.

Jussi: “We just had a tip that he was returning to Haines, we’ve had this warrant for some time now, and I’ve just been waiting to serve it.”

Upon searching Adams, officers found a loaded pistol worn around his ankle, and a fanny pack concealed below his waist, according to court documents. In the pack were four bags, one containing 82 blue pills marked M30. The pills are known as “fake oxycodone”, and known to routinely contain fentanyl, the potent synthetic opioid.

Another bag contained 2.4 ounces of white crystal-like substance, which tested positive for methamphetamine. The two other bags had small amounts of a white powder in them. Adams was carrying $950 in cash on him. Adams was placed under arrest and taken to the Haines jail.

Upon searching Adam’s residence at 23 Tower road, officers found four electronic scales, and empty packaging, indicating an intent to distribute the drugs, according to court documents.

Jussi says the drugs seized are estimated to have an $18.000 street resale value, a large amount for a community the size of Haines.

Four police officers and one state trooper took part in the arrest. Adams is now in custody at the Haines jail. He is charged with weapons misconduct and controlled substance misconduct, both class B felonies.
