KHNS’ Art Matters is a monthly, hour long, informal conversation with artists, writers, musicians, performers, organizers, and readers. Hosts Heather Lende and Marley Horner chat with various guests to take a monthly outlook at upcoming or current art projects and events.

Art Matters returns! For this installment, Heather talked with local authors Tom McGuire and Rosemary McGuire about their new books, Steller’s Orchid and Cold Latitudes. Sadly, due to technical difficulties, only the last seven minutes of their talk was recorded, but Art Matters was also joined by playwright Aaron Davidman, and you can hear their full conversation about his new play Ghost Town Bardo here.

Art Matters talks with Linda Buckley from Juneau about her new book, with Annette Smith about upcoming events including the Holly Jolly Follies and the Christmas Parade, and Haines and Skagway events coordinators about municipal wintertime activities.

Due to Technical Difficulties at the Transmitter, we had a shorter Art Matters this month. This is the interview with Katie Craney and Heather Lende in which they discuss the interaction of visual art and the written word, as part of Craney’s ongoing gallery show at the Sheldon Museum.

This month it’s a look at the upcoming season here on Art Matters. Co-Hosts Marley and Heather interview Kate Boor about her evolution as an artist, her upcoming display at the Brewery and wintertime inspiration. Then we interview Tom Heywood from the Haines Arts Council and Donna Griffard from the Skagway Arts Council to talk about the upcoming season of music and art coming to the Upper Lynn Canal this winter. Finally we talk to Teri Podsiki about winter art classes.

Co-Hosts Marley and Henry discuss the history, evolution, and future of arts in the Upper Lynn Canal; with John Svenson, Jacob Weerasinghe, and Matilda Rodgers.

Guests Kristy Fowler, Debra Schnabel, and Keleen Adams share the art of poetry, travel and decoupage.

Janine and Heather discuss the art of beermaking with Erik Stevens, chocolate making with Shannon McPhetres, quilting with Becky Nash, and poetry with Debi Kennedy

Heather and Marley interview Shannon Donnahue and Katie Craney on their update to their Watershed Exhibit at the museum; Keri Eggleston gives details on her moose hide earrings; Leigh Horner discusses the Book Fair and suggestions for encouraging youth reading.
