The Haines and Skagway Boroughs have implemented a shelter in place order.

Shelter in Place means those who have no symptoms and have NOT tested positive of COVID-19 must stay home except for procuring food, fuel, supplies, mail and medical appointments. If you are an employee and your business or employer has been closed by State Mandate, the boroughs ask that you request permission to work from home via electronic means. Employers, businesses or employees identified by the boroughs as critical during an emergency must institute a plan of operation that minimizes contact between workers and customers, minimizes congregation of people and emphasizes hygienic practices. The boroughs recommend closing businesses to walk-in customers and performing services telephonically to the extent possible.

Travelers returning to Haines or Skagway from outside of the boroughs are asked to quarantine for two weeks. That means not leaving their property and asking others to deliver food, fuel, supplies, and mail when necessary.

Individuals exhibiting FLU-LIKE SYMPTOMS must self-isolate and contact their local clinic.

The shelter in place order will be in effect until April 15th in Haines, unless the borough decides to extend it.

Skagway’s shelter in place order will be in effect through April 8th at 10 p.m. at which time the borough will reassess it.
