KHNS founder and longtime volunteer Ray Menaker died peacefully of old age Tuesday morning at Haines Assisted Living. The KNHS family lost a dear friend and champion of public broadcasting. Ray’s good humor, dedication, thoughtfulness, and commitment to community broadcasting, in all its breadth, helped set us on the path we walk today as a provider of local news, information and entertainment. Ray was a founder of the Chilkat Valley News and a champion of the public process. A longtime borough assembly member, he often volunteered to preview upcoming meetings and discussed current community issues live during KHNS morning shows. For decades Ray hosted a weekly show called Tales and Tunes, reading short stories and playing classical music. We thank Ray for helping shape KHNS, and will do our best to live up to his ideals.
