Skagway ghosts are receiving a lot of attention. Following reports of mysterious pushes and shoves, a local student plans on investigating an old building for spooky phenomena. But, as Melinda Munson reports for KHNS, he already has a large disembodied crowd following him..

Skagway School Senior Gunnar Mixon has an unusual hobby. He’s the founder of the Facebook page Skagway Paranormal.

With 490 members, approximately 300 of them year-round residents, it’s a big audience for a platform that started just seven months ago.

Mixon: “…I created this group because I’m a huge believer in ghosts and the unexpected.”

Mixon moved to Skagway in December of 2021, after his grandfather took over as grocery store manager. The 18-year-old is employed at the store as a supervisor. He has five years of grocery experience. Between school and work, Mixon spends time growing his page — posting video clips, pictures and questions.

The question for Nov. 10 was: Which horror movie do you really regret watching? Answers ranged from Blair Witch Project to Mamma Mia.

According to Mixon, Skagway doesn’t disappoint when it comes to paranormal activity.

Mixon:  “It is one of the topmost haunted places I’ve lived.”

Soon, he’s going to explore one of town’s spookiest spots. Mixon has a visit planned to the Days of ‘98 Theater.

Mixon: “I heard a lot of stories about the Eagles Hall and the Days of 98. Many people told me they’ve been pushed, shoved. They heard voices. So, I want to get inside and see what I can investigate. So, this next week we are planning to go in and investigate during the night.”

Mixon said investigations require equipment: EMF readers, spirit boxes and cameras. He designed merchandise to raise funds for his devices.

Mixon: “…it was cool walking in the school most days and seeing people wearing a sweatshirt, and hat — and everything.”

This winter, there’s one more Skagway Facebook page to scroll through. If you dare.
