The national census is coming to Haines in March. Specifically, it will show up at your door in the form of a questionnaire packet. If the packet doesn’t get a response, the U.S. Census will send a worker to your home to try and collect data.

Census employees are allowed to disregard no trespassing signs. That’s because the Census is court mandated by the Constitution. And according to Haines Economic Development Corporation Executive Director Margaret Friendenauer, it’s a good idea to be counted.
