The Haines Borough announced Monday that a woman from Anchorage working at the borough’s water plant tested positive for COVID-19.

According to interim borough manager Alekka Fullerton, a consultant from Anchorage was conducting leak detection work at the wastewater treatment plant last week. Fullerton said the consultant left Haines on Friday and tested positive after she left.

The borough will restrict public access to the water plant and sewer plant for two weeks as a precaution, but the plant’s operation will continue as normal.

Those displaying COVID-19 symptoms can call the SEARHC Haines Health Center to set up an appointment for a test.

Free COVID-19 tests for asymptomatic individuals are also available at the SEARHC Haines Health Center on Saturdays from 10a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sundays from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. No appointment is necessary.

The Haines Borough is offering testing vouchers to anyone who has entered Haines from outside the community. To request a testing voucher email eoc@haines.ak.us
