It is voting day, and the ANB hall in Haines is open until 8pm, volunteers will be present to assist if needed. By 3.20 this afternoon 386 people had cast their votes there. Diane Ahrens, Chair of the local Election Board, reported a large number of people are confused and frustrated by the new Ranked Choice Voting system.

“They just want to vote like they always have, and don’t realize they can do that with this system”, She says.

Once the polls close, Ahrens expects to stay another couple hours to count the ballots. Only a preliminary result will be available tonight for races in which no candidate exceeds 50% of the votes. Unofficial results before November 23rd will only include 1st choices.
