The comment period for a major timber sale near Haines and Klukwan has been extended.

Input on the University of Alaska’s proposed 13,000-acre sale is now due by May 22 at 5 p.m.

Representatives from the University, Division of Forestry, Mental Health Land Trust Office and U.S. Forest Service were planning to hold an open house meeting in Haines last week.

But, weather prevented them from flying in from Juneau.

The 10-year, negotiated sale is estimated to generate 150-million board feet.

The Haines meeting is rescheduled for May 9.
