21 moose have been taken in Haines since Tier II moose hunting opened September 15. Of the moose taken so far 7 have been spike forks, 6 have had 50 inch or larger antlers and 8 had three brow tines.

The harvest goal for the Tier II hunt in Haines is between 20 to 25 moose.

For the last three years, the hunt has closed early, but Fish and Game wildlife biologist Carl Koch said he believes the hunt will remain open until October 7th, which was the planned closing date. He believes the length of this year’s hunt is related to dry weather and low water levels.
