Skagway, Alaska, October 17, 2020 – The Dahl Memorial Clinic (DMC) has identified Skagway’s third positive case of coronavirus (COVID-19).
The DMC is testing multiple community members today who had close contact with a known COVID-19 positive individual. The Skagway Emergency Operations Center (EOC) will provide updated testing information at 1:00 P.M. and 5:00 P.M. today October 17, 2020. This is protocol to allow for family members to be notified prior to press releases from the EOC.
Please continue to shelter in place. This is the best way to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in the community at this time.
The positive test result was reported to the State Office of Epidemiology. The State Department of Public Health is working with the clinic on contact tracing, to identify people who have had close contact with the individual. Those who have been exposed and are considered at risk will undergo self-quarantine for 14 days per DHSS guidance. The typical incubation period (time from infection to symptom onset) for COVID-19 is 2-14 days.
