The Haines Women’s Club is organizing its long running Christmas Bazaar. The event, which hasn’t been held in a couple years because of the pandemic, will take place in the elementary school gym on Saturday 19th from 10- am to 2 pm. The bazaar has been popular in the past, often attracting as many as 50 to 60 vendors. The offering ranges from baked goods to earrings, clothing, and arts.
Here Judy Ewald, president of the women’s club:
“It’s a big fundraiser for everybody, we make money. All the local artists, builders, creators, (have) somewhere to sell their wares, we charge ten dollars per table, if you want an additional table it is five dollars, and ten percent of their gross sales. Everybody likes it, it’s a fun bazaar, you get to see your friends after winter has started, and after COVID, we are really hoping people are ready to come out, have some fun, shop locally.”
The group has been around since 1927, and has been behind important town projects such as the library, the museum and the T’lingit park playground. With only about half a dozen members right now, they are seeking to recruit.
“We are looking for new members, we always are, call me 907 766 2455 is my home number, we are friendly, we’d like new members.”
Ewald says she is looking forward to the event and the display of local talent.
“Everybody likes it, it’s fun. There are a lot of talented people in town.”
