The Skagway School has a new librarian this year, Katie Kollasch. During her brief tenure, she’s noticed plenty of books on the library shelves that need to be replaced. Instead of asking the school for more money out of the budget, however, she’s decided to team up with the company that supplies the resource catalog software for her library. They have a fundraising arm called Titlewish.
“They set up a website for us. And they just kind of run they run the fundraiser for us, and they match any of the funds we receive with an extra 10% bonus on there,” said Kollasch.
She says she’s hoping to raise funds to replace some outdated material, like medical books from the ’70s and ’80s.
“Medical advancements change, so the information is not 100% accurate in some of those. And then honestly, you know, we’ve got a lot of books for the younger kids and for middle school age, but we’re really missing out on a collection for the high school grade. I mean, those kids are still there for four more years, and they deserve books that actually meet their interests and needs,” said Kollasch.
So far she says the fundraiser has earned about $1,500. Kollasch also told KHNS she’s posted about the program on Skagway-based social media pages, but anyone looking to donate can visit titlewish.com and plug in the zip code or search for Skagway School District.
Donations will be accepted through Sunday, December 5.
