A total of five people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Skagway. Health officials say the infections came from community transmission.
In a series of press releases on Saturday, the Municipality of Skagway announced that Dahl Memorial Clinic had identified three more active cases. The first and second cases were identified earlier this week.
According to Dahl Memorial Clinic, Skagway resident Mike O’Daniel tested positive and gave permission to share his name in an effort to trace his close contacts. The clinic is asking those who were in close contact with him anytime after October 8th to call 908-983-2255 extension 0. Close contact is considered to be spending more than 15 minutes within 6 feet of a COVID positive patient, with or without a mask.
The Dahl Memorial Clinic continues to test community members who have had close contact with the individuals who tested positive for COVID-19. The clinic asks that Skagway residents call 907-983-2255 immediately if they develop cold or flu symptoms, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, chest pressure or tightness, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache or loss of taste or smell.
The Skagway Emergency Operations Center advises residents to shelter in place. Residents are asked to not gather in groups and stay home as much as possible except to work in a critical job or receive medical care. Non-critical businesses must close to the public, and critical businesses that remain open must implement social distancing measures and require masks for patrons and employees.
