The municipality of Skagway has moved its solid waste drop-off site. All materials that would have typically gone to the incinerator should now be dropped off at the Solid Waste/Compost facility on the Klondike Highway directly across from the Dyea Road turnoff.

Materials accepted are household trash, construction debris, scrap metal, appliances, electronics, animal waste, tires, furniture and light bulbs. Special arrangements can be made by calling Public Works at 983-2449.

The Solid Waste Facility’s hours are 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday and Saturday an Sunday.

The municipal recycling bin has also moved from its location at Fifth Avenue and Alaska street and will be at the same facility on the Klondike Highway across from the Dyea Road turnoff. The recycling bin will be accessible 24/7. Materials accepted include cardboard, aluminum, and glass.

There is also a new bin for compost next to the recycling trailer at the same location open 24/7 as well.

Skagway’s municipality will continue with commercial compost pickup but has announced no plans to move forward with residential compost pickup.
