The Skagway Assembly is moving forward towards the hire of a new Borough Manager.  At Last Thursday night’s assembly meeting, the assembly heard the top three recommendations from the Manager Search Committee.

Assembly member Dave Brena reported to the Assembly that the manager search committee had reviewed the 11 applicants for the position, and recommended 3 candidates as the top choices to advance in the process. Among those three is Sam Kito, the current State Legislator from District 33, representing the northern Lynn Canal communities as well as Gustavus and parts of Juneau. Kito’s term is up in January and he is not seeking re-election.

The other two candidates who the committee recommended to advance in the process are Jack Ardaugh, an attorney from Manhattan, Illinois, and David Milliron, the current city manager of Hogansville, Georgia.

The assembly passed a motion to forward the three candidates to the second step in the Manager consideration.

The assembly voted last week to keep the position opened until filled, which means more applications can come in, and any of the new applications may be advanced to the second stage of consideration as well.

The assembly is set to review the candidates and conduct both telephone and in-person interviews beginning in October.

Also at the Thursday night assembly meeting, the assembly voted to pass two housekeeping ordinances – one to continue a lease of property to the Skagway Childcare Council, passed for it’s final hearing, and a first hearing on a list of housekeeping budget amendments.
