Kaitlyn Jared, former Skagway port administrative manager, is now transportation and special projects manager for Southeast Conference.

Jared was employed by the municipality through December of 2023. She served for a little over a year.

Kaitlyn Jared:“…it was the first year of the port being managed and operated by the municipality, so there’s a lot to highlight there. Personally, you know, I spent a lot of time grant writing, and I felt pretty successful in that realm.”

Jared was instrumental in the municipality’s application to a Federal Emergency Management Agency program, called the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities grant, or BRIC.

Skagway was chosen to move forward in the grant process, making it eligible for a possible $19.9 million to shore up the landslide area above Railroad Dock.

Now, Jared is focused on assisting Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS) after $2 million was granted to Southeast Conference to help facilitate a hybrid ferry pilot program, under the umbrella of the Department of Transportation.

Kaitlyn Jared: “…we’re working with them, alongside of them, helping them where we can in their planning efforts — which are abundant right now.”

Southeast Conference was incorporated in 1958 to advance a regional transportation system which eventually became AMHS. The organization continues to advocate for Southeast issues.

Jared said the remote job gives her more flexibility with her family, and she’s happy to be a part of the regional entity.

Kaitlyn Jared: “…I just think the work is impactful.”

She encouraged Skagwegians to reach out to learn more about other Southeast Conference projects.
