Representative Sam Kito III this week will make his first visit to Haines since winning election in November.

Kito is a Democrat in the Alaska House representing Juneau, Haines, Skagway, Klukwan, Gustavus and Excursion Inlet.

He will be in Haines Friday, where he’ll hold a meet and greet at Mountain Market from 8-10 a.m., talk at the Haines Chamber of Commerce Lunch at the Lighthouse Restaurant at noon, and meet with the borough manager.

Legislative aide Tally Teal says the representative’s visit is at the request of the chamber of commerce.

“It was really just kind of to give Rep. Kito a chance to share what he’s been working on and some of his concerns and issues and things like that,” Teal said.

Teal says the trip to Haines was originally just going to be for the chamber lunch, but Kito and his staff decided to add on meetings with constituents and local government officials.

“[Kito will] just kind of a get a tour of some of the hot topic stuff around town just so that the borough can share their concerns as well,” Teal said.

Teal says Kito’s last visit to Haines was just before elections, in September of last year.
