This is Kay Clements, General Manager for Lynn Canal Broadcasting. KHNS has been based in the Chilkat Center for the Arts since 1981, a year after we began broadcasting in Haines. The Borough has supported this building as both the home of KHNS and as a world class theater, venue for religious services, civic meeting center and a space for classes of all kinds. This support is being dangerously threatened at the Assembly level over a relatively small budget allotment. If you value the Chilkat Center and all the opportunities it provides for our citizens and our visitors alike, it is imperative that you make your thoughts known NOW. Call your assembly members, write to them, attend the meetings by Zoom, phone or in person (with due protection) but ACT NOW to save the Chilkat Center for the Arts before it is too late.

The Borough is receiving four million dollars in CARES money and your first opportunity to weigh in on the disbursement of that money is Monday, May 18th, 3pm at Haines Assembly Chambers followed by the Committee of the Whole meeting at 5:30pm.
