The Haines High School makes repairs on the roof after years of leaks. We sat down with Superintendent Roy Getchell and Principal Lily Boron to get details.
And, after a slow start, sockeye salmon are running up the Chilkoot in big numbers. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game has reopened some of the area to subsistence fishing, and agency representatives are expecting to soon lift the restrictions for other users.

A rockslide shut down travel in the Yukon North of Skagway on Tuesday afternoon. It became a major inconvenience for cruise passengers on tour, who found themselves cut off from their ship. But, they eventually boarded at the end of a long night. And, The Department of Fish and Game shut down the Chilkoot inlet to subsistence fishing, biologists say they might reopen the area if they see better numbers.

The search for the planes carrying three people that went missing on its wy to yakutat has been suspended.

And, some drastic new rules restricting international travel for dogs have been revised at the last minute. The revision will allow Haines and Skagway dogs to travel to Canada and back with relative ease, but the rules complicate some situations.

Haines now has a tsunami warning system. The siren was installed in the last three days, and was tested on Thursday morning. We followed the siren’s call and spoke with the installers.
