Skagway is looking to other communities to see if the unique non-profit model of community land trusts can ease the squeeze. About a dozen Skagwegians met to discuss a community land trust as a way to address the borough’s housing crisis. KHNS reporter Melinda Munson has this report.Â
Skagway’s Nov. 7 borough assembly meeting was busy. The assembly addressed a Trump flag and a rock slide, and approved a community land trust feasibility study. They completed the first reading of next year’s budget and approved an upgrade to the 911 dispatch call system.

For example, Haines has an established senior lunch program, while Skagway has struggled to keep its nutrition program open due to staffing shortages.
