Fish counts at the Chilkoot weir have led the Department of Fish and Game to consider some restrictions in the area. The numbers are shockingly low compared to the yearly average, but agency representatives do not believe this indicates a collapsing fishery.

And, the Haines borough could soon have a new clerk. The position has been vacant for a few weeks. At a meeting on Monday night, the assembly interviewed Kristine Kennedy, and directed the manager to negotiate a contract with her. Kennedy recently moved to Haines, and has a background in accounting. Borough officials declined to make her available for an interview until next weeks’ contract negotiation.
