If you are at all acquainted with classical music in Haines, odds are you are familiar with Nancy Nash. She has performed at numerous concerts, outfitted the Chilkat Center with gorgeous pianos and offered lessons to Haines residents of all ages since the early 70s. Whether it is teaching a second grader how to play “Chopsticks” or helping with an entry for the University of Alaska Fairbanks Concerto Competition, Nash has been there for her students. On Sunday, she hosted the final student recital of her career. Nash visited KHNS to talk about her time as a mentor for pianists in Haines.

Clarification: A previous version of this story stated that Nancy Nash helped a student with a composition for the Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra. Nash helped student Scott Hansen with his entry for a concerto competition.
