The Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park is proposing to construct a new two-story building in Skagway for its seasonal employees. The building would be located on two lots at 4th Avenue and Broadway. Construction is expected to begin this spring.

According to the park, the new dormitory is a response to increased demand for housing and a lack of sufficient accommodation.

The National Parks Service or NPS offers seasonal accommodation for its employees at a bunkhouse in Dyea. NPS says if the new building were constructed, the bunkhouse would be removed from the Dyea area. The park will hold a public meeting to discuss the proposal at the Skagway Traditional Council on February 13 at 6 p.m.
