Skagway officials have reported that two local residents tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday. These are the first confirmed cases in Skagway since June 21.

The unnamed people are reportedly isolating and the municipality says more information will be available after state-run contact tracing is complete.

For now, officials recommended people in Skagway maintain social distancing, limit community contact, wear masks and wash their hands.

Anyone that develops cold or flu-like symptoms, shortness of breath, chest pressure, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, or loss of taste or smell is asked to contact the Dahl Memorial Clinic to get tested.

Tests are currently free at the clinic, but starting next month the cost will increase to $30. Testing is also available at the Skagway Traditional Council free of charge on Tuesday and Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. or by appointment.
