A 29 year old Haines man was arrested at the Juneau airport on Tuesday evening. A press release from the Juneau Police Department states law enforcement contacted the man as he exited a plane. Officers contacted him on suspicion of transporting controlled substances from Washington State, through Juneau, with Haines as the final destination.
Officers searched the man’s luggage and found 25 grams of fentanyl powder, 13 grams of methamphetamines, and one gram of cocaine.
The man was placed under arrest and taken to the Lemon Creek jail. The press release states the street value of the seized narcotics was estimated to be around $27.000
The man was charged with two felonies. He appeared in court early Wednesday afternoon. There is a hearing scheduled for May 5th.
The press release goes on to say the investigation and arrest was performed by the Southeast Alaska Cities Against Drugs task force, or SEACAD. SEACAD is a regional collaboration between the various Southeast municipal police departments, the Alaska State Troopers, the FBI, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the US Postal Inspection Service, and the Coast Guard.
They work to investigate drug importation and distribution in Southeast Alaska.
There have been multiple drug arrests relating to Haines in the last few weeks.
