With snowfall and Christmas lights comes the annual Holly Jollies show at the Chilkat Center. KHNS’ Brandon Wilks spoke with Lynn Canal Community Players board member, Sue Waterhouse, about the upcoming show and what’s ahead for the community in the new year.

[Wilks]

So, when is our annual holiday show going on?

[Sue]

Yes, it’ll be coming up on Sunday the 18th at 2 pm in the afternoon. The show is rebranded this year. It is formally called the Holly Jolly Christmas Follies. And we’ve just taken on a theme of the 1950s. So, the new title is tinsel and tidings.

[Wilks]

Now, is this going to be any different on what’s in the show? Or is this just a name rebranding?

[Sue]

It is the typical variety show. It’s different acts from our community members here in Haines, there’s going to be dancing, singing, and musical numbers of all sorts. I think it’s going to be a great show. We’re up to 14 acts.

[Wilks]

Oh, 14 acts. Alright, and does it cost anything to attend?

[Sue]

Our admission for adults is $12 for adults and $7 for students and children.

[Wilks]

Any particular act that you’re really looking forward to seeing?

[Sue]

Well, we do have a special guest for the finale. So I’m going to keep that a secret, but it is worth the price of admission. One thing that might be of interest to people too, is that we are planning to have some Christmas carols by the piano with Nancy after the show on Sunday. So plan to stick around, have some goodies and join the community in singing some carols and just so you know, there will be advanced tickets going on sale at the bookstore. They’re on sale now. So once again, the tickets are $12 for adults and $7 for students and children. So hope to see you at the show. It’s gonna be great.

[Wilks]

So you just had your LCCP board meeting not too long ago. I know there was a change in some leadership. After these last two years of the pandemic and everything was kind of shut down you got off to a rocky start. Not a rocky start, but maybe a slow start last year. What are you guys looking forward to doing this coming year kind of get back on track?

[Sue]

We have an exciting season coming up and we hope to do The Importance of Being Earnest that is slated for January.

[Wilks]

So beyond that play can Haines residents expect more from their community theater?

[Sue]

I would say we have an exciting season planned ahead. With director Roger Gentry and Sherry Price. Todd Sebens, Mark Sebens, myself. Yeah, stay tuned, there’s a lot expected in the future.
