KHNS staff and volunteers have Monday September 2nd off in observance of Labor Day, but we’ll be back Tuesday with your regular programming. Stay tuned through the day for special holiday programming, and check out the full lineup right here:
8-10am – The Mainstream – A radio program exploring the best recorded music of yesterday and today for an AAA audience. Safe enough to play at work, but daring enough to never get bored, producer and host Brett Maybee (Seneca) draws upon his love of all music to create the very best listening experience.
10am – Freakonomics – Freakonomics Radio ferrets out connections between seemingly unrelated things. The program explores the riddles of everyday life and the weird wrinkles of human nature— from cheating and crime to parenting and sports— using the tools of economics to explore real-world behavior. Host Stephen J. Dubner discovers the hidden side of everything in interviews with Nobel laureates and provocateurs, social scientists and entrepreneurs
11am – The Children’s Hour – The Children’s Hour is a weekly kids’ public radio program produced with a team of volunteer children with host Katie Stone. The Children’s Hour radio show offers a compelling and inclusive program that resonates with a wide spectrum of audiences. From nature exploration to historical narratives and storytelling, the program seamlessly integrates Indigenous voices and themes throughout its content. This week on The Children’s Hour, we’re saying goodbye to summer. The kids crew share our favorite, and not so favorite, memories of summertime, and we’ll set some goals for the start of the school year. With a story by Bill Harley, great music, tips for a great school year, and more. How do you say goodbye to summer?
Noon – The World – “The World”’s unique editorial perspective brings energy and passion to each day’s broadcast. The goal: to take us beyond borders and boundaries, and fire up our curiosity about a fascinating, messy, contentious, and beautiful planet. It’s about exploration and risk, war and peace, fun and folly, and how our daily drama plays out around the globe.
1-3pm – 50 years of Country – 50 Years of Country is a blend of legendary country artists and traditional Country music from the 50s, 60s, 70s and beyond. We have coined the phrase “Adult Vintage Country Hits” to help identify this unique musical blend for our listeners and affiliates.
3-5pm – World Cafe – For over 30 years World Cafe has presented eclectic and emerging artists on public radio. Hosts Raina Douris and Stephen Kallao bring together interviews from emerging artists and delve into the years of live recordings from World Cafe.
5pm – NPR’s All Things Considered – NPR’s Nightly Newsmagazine
6pm – Civics 101: Strikes, Unions, and Workers’ Rights – This is the story of what happens (and what’s happening) when the American workforce tries to get a seat at the table. Our guides to strikes, unions and the labor movement are Kim Kelly, journalist and author of Fight Like Hell: The Untold History of American Labor, Eric Loomis professor of History at the University of Rhode Island and author of A History of America in Ten Strikes and our friend Andrew Swan, an 8th Grade Social Studies teacher in Newton, MA among many other things.
7pm – Living on Earth – Hosted by Steve Curwood, the award-winning environmental news program “Living on Earth” delves into the leading issues affecting the world we inhabit. As the population continues to rise and the management of the earth’s resources becomes even more critical, “Living on Earth” examines the issues facing our increasingly interdependent world.
7:30pm – Counterspin – Drawing on an international network of experts, analysts, activists and artists, CounterSpin dissects news coverage of a wide range of issues and current events.
