Upper Lynn Canal residents who want to check in with their state representative will have the opportunity to do so in-person in the next couple weeks.
State Representative Sam Kito III will visit constituents in Klukwan and Haines next week and Skagway the week after. Alaska legislators are taking a break between special sessions on the state budget. Kito’s staff say he is planning to visit the communities he represents during that time.
Kito, a Democrat, is running unopposed for re-election to House District 33 this fall. In 2014, he was appointed to Rep. Beth Kerttula’s seat after she resigned. He then won election later that year.
When Kito first arrives in Haines Tuesday, he will drive up to Klukwan. Between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m., he will hold individual meetings in the Haines Public Library. To set up a meeting, call 465-4766.
Kito will attend the Haines Borough Assembly meeting scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. He plans to speak about the legislative session and answer questions.
For those who want to talk to Kito in a more informal setting, he will hold a meet-and-greet at Mountain Market early Wednesday morning, from 7:15 to 8:15, before flying back to Juneau.
Kito plans to visit Skagway on July 7. He will meet with constituents and attend a borough assembly meeting.
Kito’s district includes downtown Juneau, Skagway, Haines, Klukwan, Gustavus and Excursion Inlet.
