13043789_10156821203600471_2522801015776584883_nThe KHNS News Team won five Alaska Press Club awards this past weekend. They include First Place for Best Daily News Program in radio for the KHNS evening newscast. Other awards include:

– First place in Government or Politics Reporting for Emily Files’ story: ‘Skagway candidates react to tidelands lease rejection
– Third place in Single Story Reporting for Jillian Rogers’ story: ‘Sewer Tour: Gov. Walker earmarks $1 million for Haines sewer plant
– Second place in Education Reporting for Emily Files’ story: ‘Haines school board votes for more technology in classrooms
– Second place in Feature Reporting for Emily Files’ story: ‘Dogs to the rescue: canine search team trains in Haines

Jillian Rogers also won an award for her reporting for the newspaper The Arctic Sounder. Rogers joined KHNS in August 2015.

Haines’ local newspaper, the Chilkat Valley News, received seven Press Club awards, including one for reporter Karen Garcia’s coverage of the borough police department. The Skagway News also brought in several honors for reporting and photography.
