Douglas’s Sara Hannan won the Democratic Primary for House District 33, which includes Upper Lynn Canal.

That’s based on Tuesday night counts from the Alaska Division of Elections.

Hannan earned 1,707 votes.

Tom Morphet, from Haines, came in second, with 526 votes.

KHNS reached Morphet Tuesday night.

“Huge learning curve for me. I feel good – I felt good talking to the people I spoke with. I had a great experience,” Morphet said. “I learned a lot about myself. I learned a lot about the statewide issues. I learned a lot about the district. I learned a lot about campaigning. And if I ever were to do it again, I would do it very differently.”

Douglas’s Steve Handy earned 429 votes.

And James Hart, from Haines, got 84 votes, despite asking residents not to vote for him.

Chris Dimond of Douglas is running in the general election for House District 33 as an independent.

Jesse Kiehl ran unopposed in the Democratic Primary for Senate District Q.

Don Etheridge is vying for the seat as an independent in the general election.

There were no Republican Primary candidates in either race.
