A Haines High School student tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday. But District Superintendent Roy Getchell says it won’t be necessary to close school.

“Since the student was not at school during the contagious period, it is not necessary to close the school,” he wrote in an email to parents.

He added that state Public Health would begin contact tracing Tuesday to find the origin of the infection or notify any  close contacts that could have been exposed to the coronavirus.

SEARHC reports there have been 10 COVID-19 cases in Haines—two are active.

This is a developing story.
