An important component of the Haines ferry terminal ramp was damaged on Thursday afternoon, leaving some travelers scrambling to find alternate ways to leave Haines for the weekend. Now, a replacement part needs to be brought up from Ketchikan before it can be used. That’s according to a Haines Ferry Terminal employee.

Without the ramp, the ferry, Haines’ primary source of transportation, is unable to dock. Two scheduled port stops by the ferry LeConte were canceled. The LeConte will still make its scheduled stops in Skagway on Friday May 5th and Sunday May 7th before returning to Juneau.

Travelers who were expecting to ride the ferry have the option to fly withAlaska Seaplanes or utilize the fast ferry that travels between Skagway and Haines. The ferry terminal ramp is expected to be repaired in time for the ferry Columbia to make its stop on Monday .
