Haines is without a Department of Motor Vehicles office for the near future.

State DMV director Amy Erikson says in an email that the single Haines DMV employee retired recently. The state is recruiting for the job and it was posted Tuesday on the Workplace Alaska job website. The office in the Gateway Building will reopen once a new employee is hired and trained.

Erikson says Haines residents can take care of many DMV tasks online, including renewing most types of licenses, address changes and vehicle registrations. For things like driving tests and other in-person services, Haines residents will have to travel to Juneau or visit the commission DMV agent in Skagway.

For more information, residents can visit the DMV website or call the Juneau office at 465-4361.
