The Haines Borough has released preliminary results from last night’s vote.

There were three open assembly seats, the two top vote getters will serve full three year terms, the third will serve a partial, one year term. Two seats were open on the school board.

There were 1014 ballots cast, which amounts to 42% of registered voters, with 47 possible outstanding votes. Gabe Thomas received the most votes, he will therefore keep his seat on the assembly for another three years. The 47 outstanding votes could still affect the outcome for the next four candidates. As of now, the order is

  1. Gabe Thomas with 547 votes
  2. Ben Aultman-Moore with 495 votes
  3. Jerry Lapp with 482
  4. Margarette Jones, with 464
  5. Bill Jurewitz, with 462
  6. Eric Holle, with 439

Running unopposed for the two school board seats are:

Keely Baumgartner who got 707 votes and will take the seat vacated by Tracy Wirak- Cassidy.

Michelle “Shelly” Sloper with 693 votes, will retain her seat. These positions are three year terms.

The uncounted votes will be canvassed at the next assembly meeting, and the results will be certified at the 25th of October assembly meeting.
