The Haines Assembly has selected two top candidates to advance for interviews for the borough manager job. And it’s holding interview sessions out in the open on Thursday evening via Zoom.

Haines local government has been without its top administrative official for more than a year when a divided assembly voted to fire its manager and hasn’t been able to find a permanent replacement since.

The borough received at least 10 applicants from across the country. The Haines assembly met Tuesday behind a closed door, executive session and narrowed the choice down to two.

John Millan is the deputy director of public works for the city of Pasco in Washington state. He’s worked in that state’s public sector for the past 20 years. He’s also a combat veteran having served in Iraq in 2004.

Annette Kreitzer served in various Republican administrations and political offices with the State of Alaska for more than 20 years. She was a commissioner for the Alaska Department of Administration under Governor Sarah Palin. She lives in Juneau but owns property in Haines.

The interviews will start with John Millan at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Annette Kreitzer is scheduled to follow at 7:30 p.m. For details on how to tune in go to the Haines Borough calendar.
