The ramp used for all Haines food and fuel partially sank on Thursday. AML ground crews say they’re investigating the cause (Corinne Smith/KHNS)

On Thursday, the roll-on, roll-off ramp at Lutak Dock partially sank. It was due to a leak in the tank at the end of the dock, according to American Marine Lines (AML) ground crews, and they are investigating the cause.

AML leases the facilities at Lutak Dock from the Haines Borough, and the ramp was completed in December 2020.

“The ramp is undergoing repairs,” said AML spokesperson Ryan Dixon via email on Friday. “But we don’t expect any service delays. Our barge will arrive in Haines next week on its usual schedule.”

This is a developing story.
