The Haines Emergency Operations Center reported a new confirmed case of COVID-19 in the Haines Borough at the end of its Thursday evening Town Hall meeting. It’s the first confirmed positive case in the borough since early November. (People who claim Haines as a primary residence or traveling residents have been identified by the state as positive cases, but were not present in Haines, according to the EOC.)
EOC incident commander Carolann Wootton says the 50 to 59-year old woman is symptomatic and in quarantine. She urges residents to wear masks and practice social distancing to slow the spread of the virus. Travel is not advised at this time, but the EOC will provide tests to anyone returning to the borough.
COVID-19 vaccines are available at the Haines Health Center. More than 300 residents have received the vaccine. The clinic plans to vaccinate up to 600 more people on Friday and Saturday.
