The file in period for candidates in the coming municipal elections closed on Sunday in Haines.
Two candidates filed for mayor, Thom Morphet and former mayor Jan Hill
Six people filed for three open assembly seats. They are Natalie Dawson, Kevin Forster, Diana Lapham, Craig Loomis, Burl Sheldon, and Jerry Lapp who is currently on the assembly.
And twelve people are running for seven seats on the planning commission. They are Patty Brown, Rodney Hinson, Eric Holle, Erika Merklin, Brian O’Reilly, Derek Poinsette, Rachel Saitzyk, Eben Sargent, Dan Shultz, and Nicholas Szatkowski. Current commissioners Richard Clement and Scott Hansen are running as well.
Three seats are open on the school board, Mark Jamison and Kevin Shove have filed to fill them.
The list is closed to new file ins, but candidates wishing to withdraw their name form the list have until wednesday to do so.
In Skagway, three people are running for mayor, they are Sam Bass, Orion Hanson and William Lockette.
Two candidates are running for two assembly seats. They are Alex Wedell and Kate Kolodi.
No one is running for the three open seats on the Skagway school board.
Three questions will be on the ballot in Skagway.
Voters will decide whether to raise the amount of the property tax exemption for seniors, from $250k to $350K
They will also decide on whether to increase the sales tax from 5% to 6.25% during the six months in which the tax is effective.
And they will choose whether to approve a 35 year lease to a marine fuel distributor.
The election will take place on October 3rd.
