On Thursday evening a driver collided with a moose at 25 miles on the Haines Highway. The Haines police department responded as well as an ambulance crew. The driver was injured and taken to the Haines clinic. The cow was killed, and the carcass was collected, Port Chilkoot Bible Church volunteers later cut it apart.
Mosquito lake road resident Dawn Drotos claims she had recently seen a cow and calf on the road near that location. The animals seemed to be blinded by her headlights and would not get down the road bank. She had to stop her car and turn the headlights off to allow the animals to get off the road.
The salvaged meat will be donated.
