Skagway officials announced another positive COVID-19 case in town on Thursday bringing the total active case count to three.

The latest positive case is Eileen Henry, owner of the Skagway Fish Company. And she wants to let the community know.

“By putting my name out others might, their memory might be jarred that they were in contact with me either in the restaurant or outside of the restaurant and be able to better monitor themselves for symptoms. And if they’re having any symptoms that they go to the clinic to be tested,” said Henry.

Henry says she’s fully vaccinated, has not traveled recently, and wore a mask at work. So far her experience has been limited to cold-like symptoms including congestion and a scratchy throat.

Multiple Skagway restaurants have decided to close their doors as a precaution, others will offer curbside pickup or delivery. So call ahead before making plans to go out for a meal in Skagway.

For now, officials recommended people maintain social distancing, limit community contact, wear masks and wash hands frequently.

Anyone that develops cold or flu-like symptoms, shortness of breath, chest pressure, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, or loss of taste or smell is asked to contact the Dahl Memorial Clinic to get tested.

Tests are currently free at the clinic, but starting next month the cost will increase to $30 unless covered by insurance. Testing is also available at the Skagway Traditional Council free of charge on Tuesday and Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. or by appointment.
