The Haines small boat harbor has a new float, Alain d’Epremesnil has more.

During last winter’s storms, the float that supports the access ramp at the small boat harbor was damaged, and finally got replaced last week.

Dawson Construction was contracted to do the work, and they built a new float at their facility that was then brought to the harbor.

The access ramp was propped up, the old, damaged float was detached from the pilings and moved aside. The new float was then put in place and the ramp lowered.

Here is Harbormaster Shawn Bell:

“One challenging part is the power and the water run through that float as a part of it, so just working through disconnecting and reconnecting those was challenging, but they did good”

At the time of our conversation, Bell was disconnecting the lightering float at the cruise ship dock and preparing to tow it to the safety of the harbor.
