Haines Mayor Douglas Olerud joins us on Lynn Canal Morning for an update on what’s coming up at the Haines Borough Assembly meeting this week. We discuss new proposed ordinances on: a new telecommunications tower planned near Lutak Dock, prohibiting yurts and container homes in the townsite, a change to property taxes for subdivision development, and several budget amendments, including plans for designing a new public safety building. We also discuss the state move to allow All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) on state roads where the speed limit is 45 mph, and the mayor says he thinks the Assembly will weigh in. We discuss the current COVID outbreak in Haines, and Mayor Olerud announced he had tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday, and is in quarantine and experiencing mild symptoms.
