The Haines Borough received seven applications for the position of interim borough manager by the Dec. 4 deadline. One came in after the deadline. Acting manager Julie Cozzi sent a note to the mayor and assembly keeping them apprised of the candidates.
Just one of the contenders is local — Public Facilities Director Brad Ryan. A second Alaskan, Gary Dunn from Soldotna, also threw his hat in the ring. The rest of the applicants are from other states, including Florida, Arkansas, California, New Mexico and Colorado. One woman applied.
The borough is continuing to accept applications in case none of the seven who applied on time work out. The assembly personnel committee is meeting at noon on Friday to take a closer look at the candidates and might wind up with a short list for the whole assembly to consider.
