News Drive A Big Success!!!

A Big shout out to all of you who called, came by, went online, used the telephone and/or yelled out the front door. With your amazing support, KHNS has raised  $12,763. The final numbers are still rolling in but we heard you loud and clear, KHNS News Counts and the combination of the quiet drive with one day  on air is efficient and popular. Big  thanks  to Wings of Alaska/Fjord Flying for their donation of two round trip tickets from Haines or Skagway to Juneau. Congratulations to Mardell Gunn and Diz Kistler who had the winning number and are taking home their complimentary travel vouchers. What else? Haines clinic drop-off box allows for safe disposal of medication

People in Haines who have leftover prescription medications they want to get rid of in a safe way now have an easy option. The local clinic recently installed a medication drop-off box in its waiting room. It’s part of a new effort the Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium has taken on. “We are looking at a large blue metal box that is bolted to the floor and to the wall,” said Haines SEARHC Clinic Administrator Pat Hefley. “And that box is for used medications and those kind of items. Haines heliski map committee reaches deadline to complete work

The Haines heliski map committee’s deadline came and went this week, but their work is incomplete. And winter weather led to the cancellation of a meeting that could have provided an extension. By Nov. 30, the heliski map committee was supposed to be through voting on all proposals from Alaska Heliskiing and Southeast Alaska Backcountry Adventures. Their final recommendations need to be sent to the borough manager for his review. Then it will go to the assembly. But the committee didn’t finish by its deadline.
