Haines Public Library is hosting Spring Forward, an on- and off-line social networking for artists. Spring Forward will be happening Thursday, April 24th, from 5 to 8 pm. Sealaska Heritage Institute is seeking K thru 12 teachers and Native artists from seven communities to participate in the institute’s Art Academy in Juneau. The teachers and artists will collaborate during the academy to create kits, which will be used to teach formline design.¬¬ The academy is scheduled for June 2nd thru 6th in Juneau and is open to applicants in Haines. The Skagway Arts Council is sponsoring its first *Artist in Residence Program* from April 14th-27th. Mr. Bor Che, a multimedia artist from Slovenia, will be working with Skagway School students daily for 2 weeks on film, visual art, and poetry projects. The public is invited to meet Mr. Che on Saturday, April 19th 7:00pm at Skagway Public Library, where he will present a showing of his work and films. He will also conduct an 18th Century Bicycle Building Workshop on Saturday, April 26th (time and place TBA).
Notice for Skagway residents--The Dyea Road will be closed Monday April 14th to Friday April 18th between the hours of 9am and 2pm. Road closure will take place from Mile 5-7 from South to North Hacket Hill. Call 983-2702 for questions or more information.
There will be an enchilada dinner to support school music activities Wednesday, May 7th from 4:30 to 6pm in the Haines School Cafeteria. A music concert will follow dinner at 6:30, in the gym. Take & Bake Enchiladas will also be available for sale. That’s a dinner to support school music activities, May 7th starting at 4:30pm at the school.
National Library Week starts April 13th. To celebrate, there will be poetry night on Wednesday, movie night on Thursday, and more, including Fine Forgiveness. Fine Forgiveness is going on all week long, from 10am to 5pm Monday thru Friday. During this time, fines can be forgiven on any late materials. Fines for lost or damaged materials will still need to be paid. Take advantage of a great opportunity to start with a clean slate.
