Skagway Solid Waste, Recycling, Public Works, and RV Park Master Plan (Corvus Design)

Skagway Solid Waste, Recycling, Public Works, and RV Park Master Plan (Corvus Design)

A meeting to gather public input on the plan for a solid waste and recycling facility in Skagway was put on hold this week.

The forum was originally set for Tuesday evening. But Solid Waste Advisory Committee Chair Cory Thole said they decided to postpone it after receiving a cost estimate for the project.

Thole says the cost analysis from an engineering contractor was ‘one giant number’ for the entire project, instead of being broken down into different portions.

The project has many pieces, including a solid waste and recycling center, public works building, and RV park. Thole wanted those expenses separated so the community could take a phased approach to the project.

Thole said his committee would regroup with contractors to get another cost estimate and then hold a public meeting as planned. He said the meeting will likely take place after the holidays.
