The Skagway Borough Assembly will discuss next steps for a port consultant and senior center project at its meeting this week.
The assembly recently selected a port consultant proposal from Anchorage-based Moffatt & Nichol. But Borough Manager Scott Hahn wants to know how the municipality should pay for the contract. Moffatt & Nichol estimates the cost of its work at about $425,000. Hahn says that price could be adjusted when the contract is refined, but it would still likely call for a budget amendment.
Another budget amendment is needed for the borough’s purchase of 16 acres on Long Bay. The assembly will consider an ordinance to reflect the $800,000 purchase in the FY17 budget.
The assembly will also discuss the proposed senior center and housing facility. In the recent municipal election, voters narrowly approved a $6 million bond for the project. The Skagway Development Corporation plans to apply for a state housing grant to offset some of the cost to the municipality.
The assembly meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday in assembly chambers.
It will be the first meeting for newly-elected Orion Hanson and re-elected incumbent Tim Cochran.
