It’s too close to call, but a referendum to repeal the state’s oil tax law is trailing by nearly 7,000. Along with a handful of precincts yet to report, there are also nearly 20,000 absentee and early ballots left to be counted.

In the other closely watched race, U.S. Senate republican candidate Dan Sullivan beat out fellow republicans Joe Miller and Mead Treadwell. Sullivan will now face Democrat incumbent Sen. Mark Begich in the general election on Nov. 4.

As expected, the general election will have democrat incumbent Rep. Sam S. Kito running against republican Peter Dukowitz in House District 33 and democrat incumbent Sen. Dennis Egan running against republican Tom Williams for Senate District Q in the November election.

Gov. Sean Parnell will face democrat challenger Byron Mallot for the governor’s seat. Rep. Don Young will face democratic challenger Forrest Dunbar for Alaska’s U.S. House of Representatives seat.
