Margaret Friedenauer has worked as an Alaska journalist for 12 years. After graduating from University of Alaska Anchorage with a degree in sociology and criminal justice, she started her professional career at the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner as a copy editor and moved into a reporter position, covering health and social service, cops and courts and the military. She traveled to Iraq twice as a News-Miner reporter to cover Alaska troops deployed there in 2005-2007.
After marrying a Haines-born photojournalist, they moved out of state where Margaret worked for newspapers in Washington State and New Mexico and went back to school for a certification as a paralegal. They returned to Alaska and Haines a few years ago and Margaret worked at the Chilkat Valley News for several months before taking the News Director job at KHNS and starting a new adventure in public radio news.
Emily comes to KHNS from Ketchikan’s KRBD Radio, where she worked as an education reporter and morning host. In Ketchikan, Emily reported on everything from a bear interrupting a cross country race to what goes into school lunches. As an Undergraduate, Emily interned with NPR’s Weekend Edition, PRI’s The World, and The Boston Globe. Emily grew up outside Chicago and never expected to end up in Alaska, but she’s very happy she did!
We would love to hear from you.
